The Onion Skin News, part 012B

Okay, so 012B doesn't look as impressive as posting #300, but it's the same number (I hope, I did it in my head, the roommate or Spanky will let me know if I goofed it). I was going to attempt to writing a rather clever dissertation, much like the monthly Antigravity article in Scientific American, but I ended up with this instead:

Thank you all for allowing me to share part of my life with you.

It is much more fitting, don't you think.

In other news. I got up early today today and went to church. This is good for me to do, especially being Catholic to have the first thing you consume in a day be the heavenly food of the body and blood of our Savior. It sets a peaceful, joyful tone for the day. I hope all of you experience that peace also.

Vanity Insanity

I got my haircut today. I don't know why people want to see a picture of a haircut when they are just going to see me soon enough anyways...

On a considerably more serious note... I don't know how I managed to angered the weather gods, but I have been really on the short end of the weather stick these last few work rotations starting around the end of october. You can look it up. Beautiful, unseasonably warm sunny weather on my work weeks, cloudy cool weather on my on off weeks. Once again, it's my last work day, the last few days have been not so great, but at least typical of November... tomorrow it will be warm, but a good chance of rain during the day, then snow overnight. then cold cold cold.

Burning the candle at all three ends

This is no surprise: I need my sleep. I usually need a minimum of 6.50hrs of sleep per night, but am much happier when I have at least an hour more than that, plus a short nap (I'm old, don't forget).

Holiday weekend, I have to work all day, and I had a plan.
Wed night: lots of sleep, plan 8.00hrs.
Thu night: stay up late with Viv & friends, plan 5.00hrs.
Fri night: nap and then up late at dance with Prairie Cats, plan 6.00hrs with nap.
Sat night: sleep, plan 8.00hrs.
Sun night: Jackie Chan party hosted by Mae, and then sleep, plan 7.00hrs.
= 5 nights, 34hrs sleep.

The best laid plans of...
Wed night: *buzz* - stayed up late, got about 4.50hrs of sleep
Thu night: *ding* - stayed up late, got about 4.50hrs of sleep
Fri night: *buzz* - skipped the nap, stayed up late, got about 4.00hrs of sleep
Sat night: *ding* - in bed by 6:15pm, got around 8.50hrs sleep
Sun night: *buzz* - left the Jackie Chan-fest early enough, but drank caffeine while I was there, probably ended up with right around 4.50hrs of sleep.
= 5 nights, 26hrs sleep.

I am blaming no one but myself for this, I could have skipped out early on nearly everything and been just fine. Yes, I got my naps in the car too, but it wasn't enough. I had "tired dreams" last night. I dreamed I was I opened my eyes, it was light out, and I was more than two hours late for work. Usually those kind of 'nightmares' cause me to pop awake out of the dream, but I couldn't even do that.

Today is going to be a struggle, and I suspect I will be going right to sleep after I eat tonight.

ONE degree of separation

I have nothing to add to the timeline of this post from Jannaverse, she pretty much says it all. Click below, please read it, just another small world story to add to my many.

I lived in Coldwater, MI from sometime in late 1968 to February, 1973, I was 4 to 8 years old. The best and weirdest time of my childhood. At the time I lived there they had the 3rd oldest courthouse in the country just a block or two from my house. My father came in one night and woke me, carried me out to the front porch to see it burn to the ground. It was burned to the ground by a man who had a plate in his head from a motorcycle accident he got in at the corner of the block in between my house and the courthouse. I came up on the scene of the accident as the fire department was hosing the blood from the accident off of the pavement and down the drain. The motorcycle was a twisted wreck.

The connection between the two events has never left my mind, somehow the brilliant burning violence of the fire that couldn't be put out by the same hoses that washed the man's blood down the drain.

Experiences like that no doubt formed my ability to make connections, probably my most "intellectual" gift. I could go on and on about this and many other weird connections that came from my time in Michigan, I won't now, but the memory (albeit it, a weird one) was a pleasant revisitation of how I got to who and where I am now.

Amazingly, long after I have left Michigan, those connections are still being made. Thanks Janna.

What I learned today

Don't brush your teeth right after you've blown out the candle in the bathroom ... smoke flavored toothpaste ... not so good.

Theory

I have this theory that states:
You will like the foods that your mother craved while pregnant.

My mother craved pickles and ice cream. I like pickles and ice cream. People love to poke holes in this theory, but as it applies to me, it must be true for everyone else too.

this blog entry based on a true posting... and don't forget, all good theories are posted in purple.

I'm all over the map

states
These are the 35 states I have been to.

These are the 7 countries I have been to.

I'm all about giving credit where credit is due, so thanks to erinoneday for this suggestion, unfortunately, you can't get to her myspace, you know, she is kind of private...

Toga party!

Toga party, with live music! I was in a tartan toga, no other Scotsmen showed however. I turned into a complete klutz at some point last night, and started spilling things everywhere, ice, a plant, beer... thank you beckstraordinary for your patience and a good party.

Missed it by THAT much

Yesterday I was washing my clothes and blankets. I pulled the cover off of the couch, and what did I see, under one of the cushions, I found a sock, not just any sock, but THE sock, the one that never shows up when you are folding. I quick grabbed it and threw it in with the rest of the whites (yes, separated laundry, quite a concept, eh schmendrick?). Things went round and round for a while, then I put the whites in the dryer, and threw the couch cover in the washer. Things went round and round some more, and I pulled the whites out, put the couch cover in the dryer and started folding.

Praise and Hallelujah! All my socks matched up! I had done it, I had found the elusive sock, the very fabric of the universe was going to be changed forever! I even called a few friends to brag about it. I was going to be grilled by 60 Minutes, Bill O'Reilly would scoff at me and say it was a left wing conspiracy, Rush Limbaugh would do some more prescription drugs and then talk about how drug dealers should be lined up and shot, everything would be different.

Ta da! Go me!

The buzzer went off on the dryer, I opened it, pulled out my couch cover out, and something dropped to the floor ... there it was ... a lone sock ... mocking me ...

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

So cute...

My schedule makes it difficult for me to get to church on my on weeks, despite all of my wrangling around with different plans, I still haven't managed to find one that works well.

So when I found myself up early this morning, I decided to hit the 0830 Mass. As I get in, it seems like every kid in St Mary's grade school is lined up outside. Sure enough, there were about 150 of them, like 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders probably. They filed in quietly, being herded by the teachers and thier aides. They all looked so cute in their little uniforms with nappy heads from wearing hats and coats. If that wasn't cute enough, while the priest read the story of the Good Samaritan, the 2nd graders acted it out.

I don't know how that couldn't put a smile on anyone's face, but sure enough Father Denny still managed to look dour and bored. I, on the other hand, have a big old smile plastered on my face that might just stay there all day.

P.S. the trailer will be on my iPod

Rethinking my thinking

Earlier this year, after listening to some things some of my friends had to say, I decided to make a second blog that was to contain all of my entries of a spiritual nature. Essentially splitting myself in half for journaling purposes.

My reasoning was this: because I know that some people whom I love dearly do not share my faith, or even a belief in God. Since I knew they read my blog, out of respect for those people, I didn't want to seem as though I was pushing my beliefs onto anyone.

Regardless of my reasoning being good or bad, the decision has been bad for me. I have found that this little split I made in one corner of the fabric of my life has worked it's way into a big tear running through virtually everything I do. I feel like it has shaken my priorities loose and they've dropped to the floor in a random order.

So I have been (darn metaphors) stitching my priorities back in order, finding ways to sew my relationship with God up, and mending some holes I have worn into my existence. I think my lesson here is that since I like to (imagine myself to) be about wholeness and consistency, I cannot voluntarily split myself up and expect to continue to be whole and consistent.

blah blah blah - short story long, I am going to just write one blog, about me ... all of me.
